Vistas, Values and Voices
Innovative public art commissions
Green Close Studios is managing a series of three innovative visual arts commissions for artists to explore, through their own practice, the complex cultural interfaces between environment & society within the context of
the Forest of Bowland landscape.
It is intended that this programme of new work will substantially enrich and develop the audience for the third Bowland Arts Festival, which we have developed through collaboration with a range of environmental partners, arts organisations and artists across the six District Councils in the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty see www.bowlandarts.co.uk currently being updates for details of this year's festival.
The Community Engagement Commission is currently being undertaken by photographer Veronica Caperon who lives and works on the periphery of Bowland. She is currently working alongside the local communities of Eldroth, Lawkland and Keasden in the planning and production of a series of new photography based art works.
The Early Career Commission – is being undertaken by artist Helen Saunders who we hope will benefit from the mentoring and support we are able to offer as a part of
The Innovation Commission – for artists working within a national / international arena of environmental arts practice will be announced shortly…
There has been a fantastic national and international response to this commission but we are currently awaiting a decision on part of the funding.
Congratulations to the successful artists
Selection was extremely difficult there were so many artists we would loved to have worked with, there was a huge response and a large number of high calibre applications. We would also like to thank all those artists who spent so much time and effort on applications but were unfortunately unsuccessful in this instance.
We would also like to say a big Thank You to
Richard Smith (Curator Peter Scott Gallery, LICA, Lancaster University)
Heather Fox ( Arts Development Officer for Lancashire County Council Arts Unit) & Cathy Hopley (Forest of Bowland AONB)
for there invaluable help in the selection process.
